Google Wave – My first experiences

I wrote a post about Google Wave recently on my personal blog moaning about how I was still waiting for an invite. Today, I have finally received my login and it definitely has been well worth the wait. For those of you who have been living under a rock, Google Wave allows for real-time communication and collaboration. Google Wave is currently in preview mode with only 100,000 people who were initially given access to it.

Captioning tool for YouTube videos – CaptionTube

Captions are the text equivalent of the spoken word. Captioning your YouTube videos not only makes your videos accessible to people who are hard of hearing but it also enables viewers who do not have English as their first language to better understand the content of your video. Let us also not forget the office workers who wile away time slouching at their office desks viewing videos in silent mode yet looking ever so busy.

Twitter launches their official “How to Twitter” guide – Twitter 101

Twitter has just just launched their dummy’s guide to using twitter – “Twitter 101″ with some really interesting case studies about how businesses have successfully implemented Twitter into their online strategies. Twitter have also provided on the site a downloadable slide version of their guide for those of us thinking about promoting Twitter usage within our organisations.

New YouTube Channel 2.0 Design goes live

As many of you may be aware YouTube were quietly testing out the beta version of their channel re-design (first via a secret opt-in URL that many of you discovered, then as a visible opt-in link) for a while now. As I logged in today to create a new university YouTube page, I was immediately greated by the new Channel 2.0 design. It takes a bit getting used to especially to those of us who are power-users of the old design, but the new design is much more neater and sleeker and the learning curve in my case was a matter of minutes.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is clearly on the ball, with the sudden rise in fame of Twitter, it is clear that Facebook is feeling the pinch of the Twitterati. It looks like Facebook and Zuckberg have decided to go with the old adage “If you havent thought of it first, borrow the thought and make it yours!”
